Bye bye Adsense, hello community

You visited a few times and I would appreciate your thoughts on this post, why not comment?

Some time this week the Adsense adverts on Payment Blogger come down, I would like to say I will miss them but it would be a lie…

Why Adsense wasn’t suitable for Payment Blogger

Well its all your fault and by yours I mean the readers of the blog you see its rather simple Google Adsense works by paying us when you click on one of their ads and stay on the page long enough for it to count. Only as a collective you didn’t, click the ads I mean and you know what I don’t blame you!

With so few clicks those that were being made were nearly worthless and therefore it became an unsustainable income for the site (we would like to at least cover its hosting costs), all is not lost indeed we have an Adsense scoop posting coming soon ;)

But why no clicks? well partly because we as Techies have learnt to ignore Googles ad’s we see them everywhere and if your anything like me you will just think they are a waste of your time and hardly ever relevant. You might also have never seen them if you were using Adblock or similar program.

Hello Community

So instead of Adsense we will be making a small change and adding some smaller buttons to the left hand side, each author will have a couple of buttons for his or her own promotions be it Affiliate links or perhaps just a button to their site. But these are more then just button ad’s these are us providing you with yet more tools and information that we think is genuinely useful.

We will also have a couple of buttons available for community members subject to well subject, so if you would like your site to have a button on Payment Blogger get in touch with Tim today t dot nash @venture-skills.co.uk.

Community buttons are $20 per month for a sitewide button 125*125 not only do you get the button but also an introduction welcome post as well, after all we want to help the community along and since we will only be taking sponsors who our community will benefit from we feel its well within the topic of the blog to introduce you.

We hope these changes will provide real benefits to you the readers, our community sponsors and well of course us as well ;)

Becoming a Guest blogger

So with all this talk of buttons have you thought about Guest blogging, not only do you get a permanent bio, a great post, with links to sites of your choice but each of your posts will be able to show 2 125*125 buttons. Email Tim today if your interested in Guest posting!

Lets face it Adsense is the major web revenue program out there but like all things it can be tweaked to get the best click through rate. So if you want to increase your earnings give these short tips a try.

You could also try using heatmaps to see where people click

Blending ads in

Use Link units Link units are great for putting in some adverts in limited space or if you want a more seemless blend in with the site and with Google upping the number of units on a given page to 3 these little ads can bring in the dosh big time. http://www.doshdosh.com/adsense-tips-and-hacks/ultimate-beginners-guide-to-adsense-link-units-optimization/

Improve relevancy

Have you noticed how your relevant adverts don???t seem all that relevant sometimes? When your developing your site its worth making sure your ads stay as relevant as possible. http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/11/16/how-to-improve-adsense-ad-relevancy/

Search for it

Use Google Custom Search Integrate your Google Adsense ads in your search results is an easy way to increase click through and with Google Custom search part of Google COOP its as easy as clicking the right link, of course you need to link your custom search into your site.
