Entrecard a blog business card or a waste of time?

Author: Tim Nash

You visited a few times and I would appreciate your thoughts on this post, why not comment?

I have held off talking about about Entrecard until I had tried it for a couple of weeks but the results are in.

What is Entrecard

Put simply its a 125×125 banner exchange but you banner is displayed only once per day per site, you pay a certain number of credits to have your banner displayed on a specific site. Credits are gained based on people dropping cards on you and you dropping cards on other sites.

Stats according to Entrecard

40 credits to advertise on your blog
396 cards you dropped 344 cards dropped on you
138 clicks via ads you placed 104 clicks from your blog to others
10 ads you bought 0 ads bought from you
286 clicks from entrecard.com to you

Specific stats

Card Drops

Advert Clicks

Organic Clicks - Those coming from Entrecard

Is it worth it?

Well we have had some pretty targeted traffic from Entrecard but its also a lot of work chasing after credits, its very much a case of the big sites get bigger and the smaller sites have to work harder. But it doesn’t have the flaws of a scheme like BlogRush, and no money swaps hand, overall I think its not a bad system but I suspect at the end of the month we will remove the badge depending on how it goes. My Font site has had very little traffic so its currently very much geared towards money making blogs.

Want to try it without working hard?

Win Credits
We have a few credits to give away for those who want to try it, so for your chance to win simply tell us your thoughts either in a comment or trackback to this post or one of the follow up posts marked with win logo!

small print; what I say goes, credits given only for valid comments or trackback if your comment doesn’t get published you will not win, winners will be selected at random from valid entries and contacted via email for comments, or via the sites contact form if trackback. hey you get the idea! Good luck
Closing date oh shall we say a weeks time which would be Christmas day! 25/12/2007

Yeah I am the first one to comment. Ok so I have been using Entrecard for a few days now and so far it seems to be working really well for me. I won’t go into extensive detail here but I for one think it is more a blog business card than a waste of time.

Yes, I think Entrecard is working for me as well. I almost received 120 visits since last couple of days and it’s not bad. Sometimes the problem is people keep running off dropping the card but then your blog post should be engaging enough for them to stay back. I am happy cause I am getting to see so many new blogs and I am staying over, reading posts and commenting at many places. Even if it would not have been a contest, I was going to comment on it.

Entrecard has done wonders for me by sending over 700 visitors and about 200-400/weekly :)

Entrecard definitely beats Blogrush hands down. I know what you mean about waiting until you see results until you say anything. So many of these traffic schemes are crap.

The traffic is almost entirely people simply looking for the Entrecard button to click on then they leave your site. Occasionally, however, you will get people that stop and read your site. I have gained readers from participating in Entrecard despite the awful click-through rate.

I have heard a lot of negative things about entrecard so far. Have you tried scratchback? I have heard good things about them.

While I don’t dislike Entrecard, I have a few beefs. As you said, it promotes people dropping and running, not real traffic. I always drop when I am reading a site that has it but I refuse to play the browse & drop game just to get credits. The other issue is that it tends to attract low grade sites. I’m sure I offend with that statement but many people choose totally misleading banners ,etc and I won’t sacrifice the quality of our sites by begging their traffic. Finally, some of the best sites featured there are in a continual full state and won’t take ads. Some have ridiculous wait times while others cost a ton of credits. It’s hard to see the criteria that goes into all of this.

Since this post was made the amount of traffic on all sites has turned into a trickle, I am holding a few thousand credits and plan on using them in an experiment next week :)

But while I won’t say it sucks I think the alarm bells started around the time of the launch of the shop
