AdBrite introduces BritePic

Author: Nick Papanotas

You visited a few times and I would appreciate your thoughts on this post, why not comment?

Just got an email announcement form adBrite, regarding their new program called “BritePic”. The BritePic is a new advertisement format which looks very good, and it seems - at least for the moment that people don’t recognize it as an ad - that it can convert well too.

The idea is simple. You are using BritePic’s javascript code to display a picture from your site, which will then display an advertisement when someone put the mouse over it. Bellow is an example :

It is a wild pigeon that landed in my house :)

About the advertisement, you can also add keywords in the javascript code.

More importantly these adverts totally breach EU guidelines for accessibility reduce your on site SEO chances and irritate your user.

The evil use of flash just made my skin boil.

I haven’t think of that Tim. Hope Philip subscribed to comments so he can come back and give us an explanation.

A simple workaround would be to use the noscript tag and then place the image complete with accessibility here, While I know this and many others no this I think its appalling that the adbrite site fails to mention accessibility once, there front page example is well just wrong. To be fair I do hope the RNIB or similar pick up on it and start chasing users and companies who use these sort of tactics.

It takes one extra line of code, but I guess that they either don’t know about accessibility or think its ok to ask our potential publishers suffer legal action.

OK, what about flash code, using in Britepic and SEO? I don’t think this is good idea…
Can you give me an examples of sites using BritePic?

Look above, and read the comments where we discussed the workaround to make them SEO friendly, its also worth noting this is a very old post and I believe AdBrite has since updated their system
